If you are feeling lonely, please know that you are not alone.

As humans, we are wired for connection; deep, loving, and trusting connection – and when we don’t have that deep connection, we often become lonely – which can be very painful.

There are many different causes of loneliness:

• The death of a loved one

• An intimate relationship that does not provide for this need of a deep connection

• An intimate relationship that is painful and full of rejection and conflict

• Moving to a new area

• The ending of a friendship

• A global pandemic!

• One-way friendships that do not allow for you to share deeply and to be heard.

• People in our life can also be emotionally unavailable, and do not provide the fulfillment we need. They can only talk on a surface level – light connection

• Medical issues that isolate you

• The loss of a job

• A life change where you feel the loss of your identity

I think it’s time that we know that we are not alone in our loneliness; a staggering 78% of us will suffer from feeling lonely during our lives!

The major shift for online communication, changing work patterns, and the increasing number of single person/single parent households are increasing the problem of loneliness, yet it's something that is seldom talked about.

It surprises me how much easier it is to tell someone that you are depressed rather than to say that you are lonely. For some reason, embarrassment and shame can often accompany sharing with people that we are lonely.

Loneliness can have serious effects on both mental and physical health, so please reach out for support if this is an issue in your life that you are dealing with! 719-375-4622
