ABOUT THE THERAPIST
Kathi Kennedy, M.A., LPC, NCC, (Also holds an M.B.A. not related to counseling) and is a Licensed Professional Counselor.
With over a decade of clinical experience and advanced specialization in EMDR therapy, trauma recovery, and personality disorder abuse recovery, her practice focuses on helping individuals who feel stuck in survival patterns, unhealthy relationship dynamics, or the lingering effects of emotional and psychological trauma.

Kathi works in individual and Group therapy - she does not do couples counseling.

Kathi is particularly recognized for her expertise in the integration of:

Psychodynamic therapy (which is especially helpful for those who notice repeated patterns in relationships, persistent emotional triggers, or difficulty understanding why certain reactions feel disproportionate. The goal is deeper self-awareness, emotional integration, and more secure, fulfilling relationships).

Family History: (Family History Therapy - often referred to as Family-of-Origin work) explores how multigenerational patterns influence current relationships, beliefs, emotional responses, and coping strategies. This approach recognizes that many of our expectations about communication, conflict, attachment, boundaries, and roles are shaped long before adulthood.
Rather than assigning blame, family history work seeks to increase awareness. By examining relational patterns across generations, individuals can better understand recurring dynamics, emotional triggers, and deeply held core beliefs.
Core elements of Family History Therapy include: • Exploring family-of-origin roles and dynamics
• Identifying multigenerational relationship patterns
• Examining attachment experiences and early caregiving
• Recognizing inherited beliefs about love, conflict, success, or self-worth
• Differentiating personal identity from family expectations)

EMDR Therapy:
Core elements of EMDR include: • Identifying target memories connected to current symptoms
• Processing distressing experiences in a structured, phased approach
• Reducing emotional intensity and physiological reactivity
• Replacing negative core beliefs ("I am not safe," "I am not enough") with healthier, adaptive beliefs
• Strengthening present-day coping and resilience

EMDR Therapy is widely used in the treatment of PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, and recovery from narcissistic or personality disorder abuse. Many clients appreciate that EMDR does not require extensive verbal retelling of traumatic events and often leads to noticeable symptom reduction in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy alone.
Over time, EMDR helps individuals move from feeling triggered or reactive to feeling grounded, empowered, and emotionally steady.
• Recovery from narcissistic and personality disorder abuse
• Anxiety and depression treatment
• Relationship dynamics and attachment patterns
• Emotional regulation and core belief restructuring

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (A structured, evidence-based approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The goal is to identify unhelpful thought patterns, challenge cognitive distortions, and develop healthier, more balanced ways of thinking and behaving).

Dialectic Behavior Therapy (is a skills-based, evidence-informed therapy designed to help individuals regulate intense emotions, reduce impulsive behaviors, and improve relationships).
Evidence-based trauma treatment to:
Reduce symptom intensity
Strengthen nervous system regulation
Promote sustainable behavioral change
Clients often seek her services when they are ready to break repetitive relational cycles, address unresolved trauma, and move toward greater emotional stability and clarity.
Kathi’s clinical style is structured, direct, and compassionate. She emphasizes measurable progress, accountability, and practical skill development while maintaining a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. She is committed to ethical practice, ongoing professional development, and providing care aligned with current clinical standards.
